At Lam, as an EH&S Engineer, you're instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental safety programs and policies. Ensuring compliance with regulations, you'll perform safety inspections, conduct trainings, and oversee hazardous waste vendors and processes. Your expertise spans to life safety, workplace ergonomics, and monitoring industrial health compliance. Acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies you'll not only stay current but also reinforce Lam's commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

What you’ll do

This position is for site designated environmental engineer position within the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team who is responsible for implementing, governing, and continuously improving environmental programs across all key environmental areas (air, water, waste, sustainability, and GHG) at the Lam Research Korea Technology Center (KTC). The role ensures full continuity of environmental compliance, regulatory reporting, environmental impact reviews (eMOC/CRF), environmental management system (EMS) effectiveness, and alignment with corporate ESG expectations.

Additional responsibilities include supporting equipment and facility design reviews, new chemical assessments, hazard evaluations, emergency response preparedness, environmental training, and cross-functional engagement to embed environmental requirements into operations.

- Lead compliance with Korean environmental regulations (air, water, waste, soil, chemicals, GHG), including interpretation of new or revised requirements and proactive regulatory engagement.
- Maintain all environmental permits, legal registries, compliance calendars, and required filings to regulatory agencies.
- Oversee water, air, and waste management programs, including operational monitoring, system performance review, and environmental impact evaluations related to process, equipment, or utility changes.
- Oversee environmental control systems including air scrubbers, wastewater treatment systems, and chemical storage facilities.
- Establish annual environmental objectives and targets and monitor performance against site-level and corporate goals.
- Manage site-level environmental and GHG data (Scope 1 and Scope 2), including data collection, validation, traceability, and reliability controls to support ESG and audit requirements.
- Conduct legal compliance evaluations, internal gap assessments, and deliver environmental training to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage hazardous and industrial waste programs, including classification, storage, contractor oversight, and waste minimization initiatives.
- Perform routine environmental inspections, internal audits, and compliance checks, and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain continuous audit and inspection readiness through standardized documentation, periodic internal reviews, and timely closure of findings.
- Oversee regulatory environmental measurements and inspections, including vendor management and verification of results.
- Lead environmental incident investigations and coordinate emergency response measures for spills, releases, or permit exceedances.
- Review and approve eMOC submissions for environmental impacts associated with new tools, chemicals, utilities, and facility or process modifications.
- Review CRFs for new tools to validate environmental data and confirm required controls are in place prior to installation or startup.
- Serve as primary liaison with MoE, KECO, Yongin-si, industrial complex authorities, and landlords for environmental matters.
- Communicate environmental regulatory requirements, compliance risks, and performance clearly to site stakeholders and leadership to support informed decision-making.
- Maintain and enhance Environmental Management System (EMS) elements aligned with ISO 14001 principles, including procedures, controls, performance evaluation, and management review inputs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with facilities, operations, engineering, and global EHS teams to address environmental requirements and resolve compliance issues.

Who we’re looking for

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, gas engineering, occupational safety, environmental science, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental engineering, environmental management, or EHS (semiconductor or chemical industry preferred)
- Required Korean environmental certification: Air Environmental Engineer (대기환경기사) or Water Environmental Engineer (수질환경기사)
- Proven experience with air emissions, wastewater treatment, chemical and waste management
- Strong knowledge of Korean environmental permitting and regulatory processes
- Experience leading government inspections and interacting with MoE, KECO, and local authorities
- Hands-on experience with environmental permits, eMOC/CRF reviews, and risk assessments
- Ability to work in cleanroom, laboratory, and construction environments
- Emergency response planning experience related to environmental or chemical incidents
- English proficiency preferred for communication with global EHS and ESG teams

Preferred qualifications

- Strong understanding of Korean environmental regulations and semiconductor operations
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and environmental data evaluation skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and influence stakeholders
- Knowledge of environmental management systems, chemistry, and compressed gas safety
- Strong technical capability in reviewing engineering data, permits, and compliance documentation
- Effective decision-making under pressure with strong root-cause and CAPA skills
- Highly self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
