The Impact You’ll Make
This role in the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team is responsible for complying applicable local regulation and implementing the occupational safety programs at the Lam Research, Korea Technology Center research and development (R&D) facility. This position provides strong technical support for the occupational safety programs including: the control of hazardous energy, contractor safety, fall protection, pre-task safety planning, gas and chemical safety, hazardous materials communication, risk assessment, and emergency preparedness and response.
What You’ll Do
• This position will be assigned as a regulatory site safety officer (사업장 안전관리자) based on Korea regulatory requirement and the person should be competent to implement the requirements.
• Lead the Korea-OSHA required site risk assessment using related tools such as the KRAS, JSA, and CHARM. This includes the development of the site risk assessment protocol, the establishment of the site risk assessment organization, conducting initial/regular risk assessments for routine/non-routine tasks, and the development and delivery of its training to relevant personnel.
• Ensure that government-targeted equipment, safety guards, tools, and PPE receive and maintain certification or inspection. Manage the periodic renewal certifications and inspections, which may include cranes, lifts, aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, forklifts, pressure vessels, and pressure safety valves.
• Engage with regulatory agency inspections. Prepare safety-related permit/notification, monitoring reports, and submit deliverables, such as the Hazardous Prevention Plan (유해위험방지계획서).
• Prepare and report K-OSHA defined incidents or injuries to the relevant government or agency, conducting root cause analysis, developing and following up actions.
• Responsible for contractor and vendor safety management, including selection and evaluation, training, field inspection, coaching, and ensuring the inspection of incoming safety equipment and tools.
• Develop K-OSHA site health and safety management plan and ensure adherence of requirements with updating regulation change
• Manage the quarterly site health and safety committee, the monthly health and safety contractor committee with all site contractors, weekly area inspections with responsible safety supervisors, and quarterly combined area health and safety inspections with KTC and contractors, followed by the implementation of appropriate preventive or corrective actions.
• Develop the annual health and safety training plan and materials for each subject, and provide training sessions including contractor orientation, new-hire training, regular training, MSDS, job change training, special task assignment training based on K-OSHA requirements or as required. Maintain training rosters and records and ensure employee training requirements comply with Lam EHS policies and regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for the management of PPE, including selection, certifications, training, distribution, and field inspections.
• Develop and implement the site safety management programs/plan, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
• Knowledgeable of Korean regulations pertaining to occupational safety, incident reporting, construction safety, laboratory safety, chemical/gas safety, and hazardous materials management.
• Develop and implement site Safety procedures, guideline, and training materials in line with Lam global EHS program standards and Korea regulatory requirements.
• Manages the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and emergency response program. Responsibilities include conduct drills and serves as the First Responder for onsite emergency response events.
• Promotes a Proactive, Collaborative, and Engaging Safety Culture. Must partner with operations and facilities management to drive alignment and continuity. Must have a proactive and positive team-working relationship.
• Performs other duties assigned by manager.
Who We’re Looking For
• Bachelor’s degree or above in chemical or gas engineering, occupational safety, environmental science, or another related field.
• 5-9 years of safety experience in multinational companies, chemical/gas or semiconductor industries.
• Poses occupational safety professional certification (산업안전기사) through the Korean government or is eligible to be designated as a Safety officer under the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Act.
• Intermediate or above English speaking and writing ability.
• Working knowledge of Korean safety regulations and global best practices
• Self-starter with critical thinking, self-guide and educate skills. Strong problem solving and decision-making skills based on priorities with having proper sense of urgency.
• Team player with strong interpersonal skill, capable of working within cross-functional, multitask and external team. Good communication skills
• Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization.
• Must be comfortable working in laboratory, clean room, process facility and construction environments.
• Proficiency at MS office
Preferred Qualifications
• Another EHS related professional certifications such as air emission, wastewater, dangerous goods, industrial hygiene, high-pressure gas, electrical safety, fire safety, radiation etc. are plus.
• Experience on conducting or supporting HAZOP studies, FMEA, Consequence Analysis or other quantitative risk assessment.
