The impact you’ll make
Provides legal assistance to corporate attorneys. Acts as liaison between company attorneys, outside counsel, organizations and in-house employees. Compiles data from legal digests, encyclopedias and practice manuals. Assembles, proofs and edits drafts of contracts, leases, licenses and insurance policies. Prepares and files legal documents with appropriate entities, as required. Conducts research on projects as directed by corporate attorneys. May review and ensure the company's compliance with regulations. Assists internally in analyzing documents. Counsels on progress of cases. May assist with the review and preparation of patent material and applications. Requires paralegal certification, law office experience and knowledge of office automation equipment/software related to activities.
What you’ll do
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Specialist / Contracts Manager to join our legal team in Japan. This role supports the drafting, review, negotiation, execution, and lifecycle management of a wide range of commercial agreements, while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and the legal team worldwide. The position requires sound commercial judgment, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to balance business needs with contractual risk, company policy, and compliance requirements in a multinational environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of agreements, including service agreements, NDAs, facilities contracts, indirect materials agreements, and other commercial contracts as assigned.
• Manage contracts across the full lifecycle, from intake and review through approval, execution, tracking, and close-out or renewal.
• Partner with attorneys and legal professionals across the legal teams within the Lam Legal department (e.g., Ethics & Compliance, Intellectual Property Legal Group, Corporate Legal), and cross-functional stakeholders to support consistent and efficient contract review and approval processes.
• Apply and support compliance with internal contracting policies, procedures, and approval frameworks; escalate non-standard or higher-risk issues appropriately.
• Provide clear, practical guidance to internal stakeholders regarding contractual terms, risk considerations, company policies, and mitigation approaches.
• Maintain accurate contract records and key data within the contract lifecycle management system, including setup and coordination of electronic signature packages (e.g., DocuSign).
• Proactively follow up with stakeholders to support timely execution of contracts.
• Prepare, proofread, translate (EN↔JP) and redline legal documents, correspondence, and training or reference materials.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard templates, clause libraries, playbooks, and internal knowledge resources.
• Support training and communication on contracting processes and best practices across the organization.
• Handle routine and moderately complex agreements with a high degree of independence, while consulting with legal leadership on complex, non-standard, or sensitive matters.

Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Law or Juris Doctor (JD).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in contract drafting, review, negotiation, and contract administration.
• Experience in an in-house legal department or multinational corporate environment preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of common commercial contract terms, risk allocation, and negotiation principles.
• Experience using contract lifecycle management systems and electronic signature tools; DocuSign experience preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple contracts and stakeholders simultaneously with attention to detail and priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts in a practical, business-focused manner.
• Comfortable working in a global, multicultural environment and collaborating across regions.
• Experience in publicly traded, high-technology, manufacturing, or engineering-driven multinational companies is highly desirable.
Language & Technical Skills• Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English is required.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Interest in and ability to adapt to legal technology tools and evolving contract processes. Personal Attributes
