The impact you’ll make

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design expertise needed to shape our technology's performance.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the growth of the Aether team.

What you’ll do

  • Lead conceptualization, modeling, analysis, documentation, and test/validation of semiconductor chamber hardware
  • Work with potential suppliers to ensure parts can be manufactured in accordance with performance and cost objectives
  • Ensure documentation is consistent with SEMI, Lam Standards and other standards as applicable (ANSI, DIN etc.)
  • Design parts using metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coating/plating
  • Develop and execute test plans that generate characterization data sufficient to understand and validate the performance of the design
  • Develop and present reports/presentations of excellent quality that communicate design intent, analysis, and validation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure hardware designs meet overall product objectives
  • Provide work leadership, training, and mentoring to junior and new engineers
  • Conduct thermal, flow, and stress simulations to optimize designs prior to fabricating parts

Who we’re looking for

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 6 years’ experience; or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and fundamentals including design principles, machine elements, materials, fabrication methods, and integration and testing
  • Extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the use of 3D CAD tools such as ProE, NX, etc.
  • Able to deliver in a dynamic, challenging, and fast-paced working environment to challenging development schedules
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent presentation skills, and strong customer-interaction skills
  • Strong skills and experience in problem solving, time and priority management and project management
  • Strong attention to detail in design, documentation, and project execution
  • Interest in potential Engineering Management responsibilities

Preferred qualifications

  • Semiconductor industry experience is not required, but a plus
  • Fluency with modeling and assemblies in Siemens NX CAD system
  • Proficient with thermal and structural analysis
  • Prior experience developing semiconductor capital equipment, in particular ALD/CVD chamber hardware and plasma generation
  • Experience with CFD flow simulation for gas flow in vacuum systems
  • Hands on, passionate about hardware development
  • Supervisory or Management experience

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

 

Salary Range for this position: $119,000.00 - $259,000.00.

 

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside in California and most states. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
