The Impact You’ll Make

At Lam, as an EH&S Engineer, you're instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental safety programs and policies. Ensuring compliance with regulations, you'll perform safety inspections, conduct trainings, and oversee hazardous waste vendors and processes. Your expertise spans to life safety, workplace ergonomics, and monitoring industrial health compliance. Acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies you'll not only stay current but also reinforce Lam's commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

What You’ll Do

Position will manage and support Bay Area EHS safety and industrial hygiene programs from a systematic perspective to integrate them into Lam’s business culture.  This position is responsible for management of Lam’s health and industrial hygiene programs, procedures, and initiatives.  This position will perform a variety of work to ensure health and safety compliance through explanation regulatory obligations, recommendation of appropriate action and PPE, support of operational activities to minimize hazards and exposure, oversee or manage projects, maintain and improve the health and safety management system. Collaborates with all departments and functions to improve health and safety.

Position Summary & Primary Responsibilities:

• Manages and supports chemical, industrial hygiene and occupational safety programs at Lam’s Fremont, California semiconductor R&D campus; conduct assessments for health and safety hazards and risks, develop sampling plans and prepare reports, identify control measures and PPE, provide training, etc.
• Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and operational safety).
• Evaluates and approves chemicals, activities and processes for compliance and prevention of EHS impacts, particularly health and safety aspects. Assists with management of change activities, including equipment and tool installation, process safety review and R&D chemical use approval and pro-active prevention and management initiatives.
• Performs a variety of work to develop, implement, and monitor company chemical and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and industry best practices.
• Analyzes performance trends to develop objectives under the EHS program. Effectively leads positive change where needed to align with business objectives and other R&D site/locations.
• Provides governance to ensure accurate, holistic root cause and preventive actions are implemented.

Who We’re Looking For

• Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in EHS, science or engineering required; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience. 
• Extensive EHS and/or process safety management (PSM) experience, including at least 5 years of semiconductor, cleanroom, facilities or chemical industry experience.
• Deep technical experience in occupational health and safety, with focus on industrial hygiene.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified industrial hygienist preferred.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
