The Legal Group protects us against risks and provides the framework for our ethical and compliant global business practices, enabling Lam to effectively navigate the landscape of the semiconductor industry. Their global government affairs team is responsible for advocating on behalf of Lam with public policymakers.

 

The impact you’ll make

As Director, regulatory counsel, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the company's legal affairs related to product and materials regulations, supply chain sustainability and due diligence, and other compliance matters. Your expertise will ensure that the company navigates complex regulatory landscapes effectively, mitigates risks, and supports strategic business initiatives. You will be a key partner to executive and senior leadership, providing legal insights and recommendations that will influence the company's growth and operational integrity.

What you’ll do

  • Be the lead counsel for product compliance partnering with the Global Product Group, while supporting other compliance activities related to environmental, health & safety (EHS), emerging regulations, and sustainability.
  • Advise on regulatory developments and policy, including managing external counsel and supporting continuous improvement of compliance programs together with other functions including product, sales, operations, and government affairs.
  • Support the overall Ethics & Compliance program coordinating effective implementation of compliance policies, procedures (including third party due diligence), training and communications, internal investigations, and other initiatives.
  • Regularly assess and manage regulatory and compliance risks, support M&A due diligence and integration, and manage response to investigations or enforcement matters.
  • Support for other legal activities as needed, such as providing guidance on enterprise risk management, legal aspects of digital transformation, and public company reporting.
  • Monitor legal trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments to identify emerging risks and opportunities, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Be a trusted advisor and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product safety, information security, operations, sales, supply chain, logistics, and sustainability, to drive alignment and support the achievement of business goals.
  • Lead as a member of a high-performing legal team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional development, while supporting and executing Legal department initiatives.

The position reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer as a member of a global ethics, compliance, and regulatory team and can be based in our offices in Fremont, California or Tualatin, Oregon.

Who we’re looking for

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one US state and, depending on hiring location, ability to join the Oregon Bar or register as in-house counsel in California.
  • 12-15 years of progressive experience as an attorney, with at least 8 years focused on product counseling and an expert-level understanding of regulations impacting industrial equipment product design, operation, and material sourcing / supply chain compliance.
  • Significant experience counseling companies on EHS regulations and supporting EHS compliance programs and broad-based experience with other regulatory or compliance programs or counseling (anti-corruption, data privacy, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of global sustainability regulations, including carbon accounting, human rights, and emerging due diligence and reporting requirements (e.g., EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive).
  • Proven track record of handling complex legal matters, working across functions and time-zones in a matrixed environment, and providing strategic legal advice that drives business success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative orientation and the ability to effectively work with and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience (either in private practice or in-house) with the semiconductor industry or representing multi-national high-tech manufacturers.  More general experience with a Fortune 500 company would also be a plus.
  • A mix of prior litigation, transactional, and regulatory counseling experience, including but not limited to governmental investigations, commercial litigation, and/or contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Prior experience participating in relevant industry or professional associations and prior experience partnering with government affairs teams on policy engagement.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, contract management software, and compliance systems.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, curiosity and desire to learn/expand skillset, and a bias toward action.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

 

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $179,000.00 -  $377,000.00.

 

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
