The group you’ll be a part of

The Manufacturing Engineering team will be part of Global Operations. This funtion will partner with the Operations team in Malaysia to deliver Operations Excellence, driving high quality, productivity and cost effective performance in the safest environment.

The impact you’ll make

The Manufacturing Engineering Director will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Operations at Lam Manufacturing Malaysia, reporting to Operations Senior Director Senior. Mainly responsible for Assembly & Test Engineering of Wafer Fabrication Equipment(WFE), Industrial Engineering, Fixture Design and Work Instructions Software Engineering.

Oversees the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new and existing products. Ensures the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at minimum costs. Develops systems to maintain reports and record keeping of company products. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and drive the Manufacturing Engineering vision and strategy to achieve operational excellence across manufacturing operations.
  • Lead and develop a team of Engineering Managers and Engineers providing assembly and test engineering support, including work instruction management, mechanical drawing interpretation, material quality issue resolution, and manufacturing troubleshooting.
  • Oversee test engineering activities, including product testing, Python-based test programmes, failure analysis, test yield improvement, and test cycle time optimisation.
  • Manage key Manufacturing Engineering functions, including factory layout design, capacity planning, engineering change management, new product introduction (NPI), product knowledge development, and work instruction governance.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, productivity, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Champion engineering innovation and operational excellence to maximise throughput, improve quality, and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • The Manufacturing Engineering Director is responsible for enabling Lam Manufacturing Malaysia's manufacturing operations to achieve maximum throughput, world-class quality, and cost efficiency through strong engineering leadership, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Who we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Engineering discipline, with 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing or operational leadership roles. Experience in a cross-functional multinational corporation (MNC) environment is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of building, scaling, and leading high-performing teams through periods of significant growth and organisational transformation.
  • Experience in manufacturing operations within the electronics, aerospace, healthcare, or related industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify value-creation opportunities, drive continuous improvement, and lead organisational change through a clear vision and well-defined change management strategies in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish clear accountability, align expectations across all organisational levels, and effectively resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time and collaborate across multiple time zones, particularly with Lam manufacturing sites in the United States, Korea, Taiwan, and Austria.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in additional local languages is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of engineering within a manufacturing environment is required. 
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred, with demonstrated competency in structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are essential, with a strong leadership presence.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to make data-driven decisions and communicate effectively using data.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across functions and organisational levels.
  • The ideal candidate is approachable, adaptable, and able to connect effectively with employees at all levels of the organisation, as well as with global stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in SAP is required.
  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles, Vacuum Integrity, and basic electrical components is essential.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
