The group you’ll be a part of

WETS Deposition group at Lam India Global Hardware Technology (LIGHT) is hiring a Lead Systems Engineer to drive system-level definition and integration for wafer fabrication equipment, partnering across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and process teams.

The impact you’ll make

As a Systems Engineer at Lam, you'll design complex frameworks, systems, or products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and compatibility to integrate hardware, software, and firmware into a cohesive system. Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses combined with your multi-layered technical expertise you help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.

What you’ll do

  • Lead systems engineer for a development program (product) and sustenance program, ensuring mechanical/electrical hardware and tool software work together to meet system specifications.
  • Develop system specifications derived from product and process requirements.
  • Define system architecture options and module integration strategy (platform, handler, and process modules).
  • Drive cross-functional integration across mechanical, electrical, chemical, software, and controls to ensure end-to-end system performance meets specifications.
  • Decompose the system into functional subsystems; define subsystem functional specifications and budget margins; and approve interface control documents (ICDs) between key subsystems.
  • Resolve system-level design tradeoffs and conflicts to ensure an integrated design that meets performance requirements.
  • Ensure the system meets engineering and compliance standards through concept and detailed design phases.
  • Own the bill of materials (BOM) setup and drive execution of the documentation and release plan.
  • Prepare required program engineering deliverables (e.g., FMEA, technical specifications, and risk analyses) and present them in design reviews.
  • Ensure system interfaces are clearly defined, documented, and verified end-to-end.
  • Contribute to the cost allocation model and ensure design decisions support cost targets.
  • Develop reliability, maintainability, and serviceability allocation models; define the reliability design approach; and create system-level test plans.
  • Develop system-level verification plans and approve subsystem-level test and specification verification plans.
  • Collaborate regularly with global cross-functional teams (internal and external) to align requirements, interfaces, and execution.

Core Competencies

  • System architecture and integration mindset for medium-to-large capital equipment assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of complex machinery involving mechanical, electrical, software, and real-time control systems, with awareness of inter-subsystem interactions.
  • Proven structured problem-solving skills to evaluate tradeoffs and drive decisions with data.
  • Experience with risk mitigation and root-cause/corrective-action methods (e.g., RCCA) for field or customer issues.
  • Clear, concise communication across cross-functional and global teams.
  • High technical independence, structured work habits, and strong attention to detail in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to business deadlines.

Preferred qualifications

  • Educational Qualification: B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech/PhD (Mechanical/Systems Engineering)
  • Years of experience: 10-14 years of relevant experience preferably in semiconductor equipment engineering
