The Impact You’ll Make
As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.
In this role, you will directly contribute to the design and development of sub-systems and assemblies used in Semi-conductor machines.
What You’ll Do
- Responsible & accountable to execute multi-discipline (Mechanical, Thermal) & multi-domain (CFD, Ceramic materials, coating technologies) engineering problems with full ownership - Concept maturity, Engineering, Testing & Deployment
- Responsible to lead a team of Engineers to drive engineering excellence, optimize and implement solutions for projects as part of trouble shooting at customer or supplier end, continuous improvement programs (CIP), cost reduction, reliability improvement and RCCAs
- Support staffing, training, mentoring & coaching, and strategic planning to build capacity and capability.
- Lead medium to high complex sub-system related projects with full ownership through product life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including, designing, CAD modeling, development, and testing / validation..
- Lead design reviews, project reviews and participate in technical discussions.
- Collaboration with cross functional teams to develop robust design solutions.
You need to know:
- Knowledge of various Materials (Al, Steel, SS, Ceramic, Coatings & Treatment) Properties, Vacuum applications & its compatibility with various chemicals etc
- Understand application of different materials, their behavior at range of temperatures and Pressure applications, understands various failure modes leading to failure in vacuum applications (Contamination, Degassing etc)
- Application of Materials, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Heat and Mass Transfer and Fluid Mechanics “know-how, concepts & engineering approach” to solve Engineering problems
Who We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 12+ years of experience; or an advanced degree with 10+ years of previous professional experience
- Excellent leadership skills in team planning, strategizing, innovation
- Proficient in managing deliverables of interdisciplinary engineering team for tasks, projects, or program and to drive engineering excellence in Volume manufacturing phase
- Decision making experience to solve problems related to Engineering and Business processes in collaboration with cross functional team in a matrixed organization
- Proficient in concept design and development of complex components/medium-complex sub-systems by following PDR process – generating engineering requirement specification, conducting design reviews, performing DFMEA, validating designs through prototyping and testing and releasing engineering documentation
- Demonstrated Problem Solving and Decision-Making ability by applying structured processes & tools such as 8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys, Pugh matrix & Pareto chart
- Experience in driving and managing projects in collaboration with CFT (Manufacturing, Supply chain, Electrical/controls engineering and Product safety) for project deliverables
- Expertise in Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Serviceability, Cost principles, and Engineering Change Management
- Strong Product Development and Design experience in Mechanical domain
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Semiconductor Wafer Fab Equipment (WFE) domain
- Experience in Sheetmetal design and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to design of Fluidics and Pneumatics systems and selection of OEM components like Fluid system fittings, Valves, Transducers, Pressure Regulators, Sensors, Gauges, etc.
- Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process, SAP, PLM, TCE, Project Management tools (MS Project), exposure to Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) concepts
- Proficiency in Thermal hand calculations and basic simulations (Conduction, Convection, Heat dissipation and increase in temperature) to facilitate selection of heat sinks, Cooling systems like Fans etc.
- Knowledge and exposure to ANSI, ASME, SAE, ISO, SEMI standards applicable to semiconductor industry
