The impact you’ll make
As a Hardware Engineer at Lam, you will be at the forefront of innovation by designing, developing, and troubleshooting, and debugging Embedded hardware. Your role is pivotal in developing Hardware that support design, infrastructure, and technology platforms. Your expertise will determine hardware compatibility and influence design, ensuring seamless integration between software and hardware.
In this role, you’ll make an impact across Lam’s entire product portfolio of equipment working within our centralized Controls engineering team, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry.
Job Responsibilities
- Execute design, development, verification, validation, and qualification of PC boards owned by the Controls group.
- Coordinate and review PCB layout design for mixed‑signal PCBs.
- Develop board‑level schematics for designs incorporating analog/digital I/Os, microprocessors, PLDs, DSPs, and 32/64‑bit processors.
- Identify and select appropriate test equipment; leverage lab infrastructure to validate and bench‑test developed PC boards.
- Own the product lifecycle and maintain comprehensive design documentation.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers during hardware bring‑up and debugging.
- Work closely with system engineers on product integration and qualification.
Who we’re looking for
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (EE, EC, or related disciplines).
- 2–5 years of experience in hardware design involving microcontrollers, microprocessors, analog and digital circuits, memories, power supplies, ARM processors, and DSPs.
- Strong expertise in hardware development, component selection, and circuit design.
- Proficient in communication protocols including SPI, I²C, EtherCAT, LON, RS‑232, RS‑422/485, and Ethernet.
- Hands‑on experience in hardware/firmware integration and testing for embedded systems.
- Practical experience with schematic capture using ECAD tools such as OrCAD, Altium, and DxDesigner.
- Hands‑on experience with circuit simulation tools like Multisim, TINA, LTSpice etc.
- Experience managing component obsolescence and identifying suitable replacements.
- Strong hardware debugging, board bring‑up, and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient in using electronics lab test instruments.
Preferred qualifications
- Development experience with HDL languages such as Verilog and VHDL.
- Experience programming in Embedded C and writing automation or utility scripts in Python.
- Experience in PCB layout design using ECAD tools.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
