The Group You’ll Be A Part Of

Many years back, Lam Research embarked on a journey to set up a global center in Bangalore to expand its reach Indian talent pool. Over the period, this center expanded its capability and scope beyond engineering to global manufacturing, supply chain operations and other shared services. One of the major functional groups of this entity is LIGHT (Lam India Global Hardware Technology). LIGHT has completed more than a decade of existence[SN1]  and has emerged as a major new product development (WFE - Wafer Fabrication Equipment) and sustaining engineering team for Lam’s global engineering footprint.

 

There is an opening for the role of a Director (Engineering) to lead Modeling group within LIGHT organization. This will be a leadership position based out of Bangalore, directly reporting into Executive Director and Head of LIGHT. This individual will be responsible to lead a 25+ strong, highly talented engineers working on advanced numerical (FEA and CFD) modeling using tools such ANSYS, FLUENT, ABAQUS and COMSOL. Team performs structural, thermal, flow, electromagnetic and multi-physics simulations to predict life and performance for WFE subsystems and components.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining technical capability development roadmap for modeling groups in consultation with Product groups (PG) that are in different global locations.
  • Create and maintain skill set matrix and infrastructure/lab/tooling required to meet roadmap. Enhance group’s inherent value to Lam by upskilling competency and climbing up the value stream.
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment on all reporting metrics and Service Level Agreements that the group is asked to generate and report. Set the direction and mentors teams to solve design and engineering issues.
  • Maintain and develop process checkpoints to ensure adherence to design standards and schedules. Work with leadership peers to drive process improvements, as necessary.
  • Ensure good communication and alignment with various stakeholders including Product and Program Management, Product Engineering, Global and Local engineering, and process labs.
  • Plan and maintain budget and resources as per annual operating plan for the group in consultation with global stakeholders and LIGHT head.

Who We’re Looking For

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strong know-how and hands-on experience in modeling domain. Solid understanding of industry specific modeling practices and tools.
  • Solid understanding of various stages of product life cycle, including concept & feasibility, preliminary and detailed design, design validation (based on modeling and physical testing) and launch.
  • Experience in technical coaching and project mentoring in program of higher complexity.
  • Experience working in company with global footprint that involves remote stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in decision making in absence of complete or accurate data.
  •  Collaborative and team working - ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good mix of technical and business acumen.
  • Experience in working with cross-disciplinary teams (Product and Program Management, Product Engineering, Lab Operations) for major projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply strategic thinking and ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions on new proposals.
  • Experience in scaling organization in pursuit of meeting long term objectives.
  • Experience in situational leadership and motivating team in achieving business result.
