The impact you’ll make
The Data Governance Metadata Lead is an experienced, business-facing individual contributor role responsible for defining and executing enterprise metadata, catalog, and semantic governance capabilities. This role ensures enterprise data is discoverable, understandable, lineage-aware, and consistently defined, enabling trusted analytics, operational reporting, and data products across the organization.
As part of the Data Governance Office, this role plays a critical role in shaping how data context is captured and operationalized across a complex, cloud-centric ecosystem spanning SAP, enterprise platforms, analytics environments, and data products. The position works through influence, collaboration, and hands-on execution, partnering closely with business, engineering, and platform teams to embed metadata and governance practices into day-to-day data operations.
What you’ll do
· Define and execute enterprise metadata governance practices, including business glossaries, definitions, semantic alignment, and lineage standards.
· Own the end-to-end lifecycle of governed metadata assets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and ongoing maintenance across domains.
· Enable data discovery, transparency, and trust by operationalizing catalog, lineage, and metadata capabilities within governance platforms.
· Partner with business, data engineering, architecture, and platform teams to capture and align business and technical metadata at the source.
· Facilitate system and data flow documentation, supporting lineage, impact analysis, and governed data usage.
· Support data stewardship by guiding domain stewards on metadata standards, ownership, and catalog usage.
· Monitor and report on metadata coverage, completeness, and adoption metrics to highlight gaps and improvement areas.
· Contribute to the evolution of the enterprise data governance operating model through hands-on execution, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
· Support execution of governance priorities and stakeholder alignment by acting as a point lead for metadata-focused workstreams, including implementation and adoption of data policies and standards.
· Support data policy interpretation and standards implementation by translating governance requirements into actionable metadata definitions and catalog constructs.
· Identify metadata gaps, conflicts, and exceptions and partner with the DGO and domain teams to drive resolution and improvement.
Who we’re looking for
· Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
· 8+ years of experience in data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, or enterprise data management.
· Proven experience building and operating enterprise metadata frameworks, including business glossaries and lineage.
· Strong hands-on knowledge of data governance and catalog platforms (e.g., Informatica CDGC/Axon, Collibra, Alation, or similar).
· Solid understanding of SAP core and master data models and common enterprise data domains.
· Working knowledge of relational databases and modern data platforms, with an understanding of how metadata is generated and consumed.
· Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to influence across business and technical teams.
Preferred qualifications
· Experience in large-scale, high-growth, or highly complex enterprise environments, preferably in High-Tech Manufacturing or Semiconductor industries.
· Hands-on exposure to SAP S/4HANA or other ERP ecosystems.
· Experience supporting analytics platforms, data products, or AI/ML initiatives where metadata and lineage are critical.
· Demonstrated partnership with data engineering, platform, and enterprise architecture teams.
· Familiarity with concepts such as data domains, semantic layers, data mesh, or data products.
